Alien Systems & Technologies (AST) and Kidde Fire Protection (UK) will be holding three dust explosion seminars in July 2002.
The company has extended an invitation to attend any of the seminars, which are structured to provide a thorough understanding of the causes of dust explosions, hazard assessment and various explosion protection options including the early detection of explosions, the rapid release of a suppressant and explosion isolation techniques.
The guest speaker for the occasion will be Dr Richard Siwek of Firex. Dr Siwek has devoted many years to explosion research and is a world-renowned expert in this field. Formerly of Ciba and the Swiss Institute for Safety, Siwek is now an independent consultant working closely with all the relevant standards bodies to improve explosion protection and to raise industry's awareness to the risk.
The other guest speaker will be Karel van Dyk of the CSIR. Van Dyk is involved in the area of coal, mining and safety at Kloppersbos and will present several local case studies of dust explosions.
There will be no charge to attend these seminars. One may choose to attend either on the 23, 24 or 25 July 2002 at the SA Fire Protection School, Boksburg. The content on each day is identical.
