One important concern for stadium managers is overcrowding and, together with this, control of access at an event at stadia.
With overcrowding, spectators are more likely to become aggressive or impatient. Not having anywhere to sit or sitting in any seat available can cause friction and of course concern for safety if people have nowhere to sit. To prevent such overcrowding occurring in the first place, control over who is allowed access into the stadium is paramount. Physical barriers such as turnstiles can be used to assist in effectively controlling unauthorised access.
Turnstiles can also be used to control the flow of people moving into, through and out of a stadium. By their design, turnstiles can either electrically or manually control flow in either an entry or exit direction or even both if required. Turnstiles can also take the form of waist-height control or full-height control to prevent people from climbing over, should this be a concern. There are a variety of turnstiles available for various applications. For example, Flow Systems Manufacturers has over 100 different turnstiles to choose from for all sorts of different applications within stadia and industry and has most recently supplied turnstiles to the Super Stadium in Pretoria.
