Johnson Controls Corporation has been awarded distribution rights for HID, a manufacturer of access control readers and cards.
"Our existing product offering includes its own feature-rich access control, time and attendance, CCTV and intrusion systems. However, the functionality of HID's cards and readers means we can provide clients with the best technology at the lowest price," says Neil Cameron, controls division manager at Johnson Controls.
Johnson Control's existing Pegasys Access Control systems are based on an open architecture, allowing the use of many different card and reader formats, each having advantages within different applications. "The extensive combinations of readers and cards provide the added advantage of upgrading an existing access control system with readers and cards best suited to the businesses' needs and environment, without having to replace the entire system," explains Cameron.
The HID product offering includes a variety of technologies. The cards vary from a low-cost ProxCard proximity card, ISOProx thin proximity card, Proxkey keyring tag, Proxcard Plus Wiegand and Proximity card (dual format), Proxpass active vehicle card, Smartprox contact smart chip card and Mifare smart contactless card. Readers include the Proxpro Plus, Proxpro with keypad, the Thinline, Entryprox standalone reader with keypad, Maxiprox long-range reader and the Classic swipe Wiegand reader.
"The innovative Proxcard Plus dual protocol card provides clients with the flexibility to use one card for both Wiegand and Proximity reader technology. For example, a company might have included proximity readers with an upgrade but due to financial constraints, not replaced every Wiegand reader on the premises. The Proxcard Plus reduces the cost of having to utilise two cards for both Wiegand and Proximity readers," says Cameron.
