iLegal 2019: Critical IT aspects of Augmented Surveillance

1 August 2019 News & Events

iLegal is the surveillance industry’s premier one-day conference hosted jointly by Hi-Tech Security Solutions and Dr Craig Donald. iLegal 2019 will be held on 12 September 2019 at The Rosebank Crowne Plaza in Johannesburg.

The conference will focus on the ways and means companies and individuals can realise the full potential of their CCTV installations through the use of new technologies as well as well-trained people.

Keeping control rooms operational

One of the worst nightmares for a control room is losing control of the equipment and systems that people rely on for securing people and assets, especially if it happens during an emergency.

• What happens when your operators can’t access their systems because your control room is being held ransom by ransomware?

• Can you be sure syndicates aren’t using your video feeds to assist in planning their operations?

• What happens when an operator finds a USB drive in a taxi on the way to work and puts it in their PC to see what’s on it?

• How secure is the data you keep in the control room?

Craig Rosewarne, CEO of Wolfpack Information Risk will be looking at the ways people can infiltrate, disable and compromise your control room, starting with techniques that take advantage of the outside environment where you may have communications, to the perimeters that are supposed to be protecting you, to the actual infrastructure that you work in, the computer and software systems that you rely on, and the people who work there. Issues ranging from sophisticated interception to the most basic techniques that can be used will be discussed to assist people in safeguarding their control room and all the people relying on it.

More than a hard drive

Everyone in the surveillance market knows that storage is a critical issue. One the one hand, you need lots of it to store video feeds – even with all the new compression technologies out there. On the other hand, you also need quick access to your feeds when needed without delays while finding the backup tape or connecting to the right box. And above all that, you need systems you can rely on all the time.

Jason McGregor, Regional Sales Manager, Digital Security & CCTV at Dell Technologies will take delegates at iLegal 2019 through the changes the security market has and is going through, highlighting how this has impacted the storage requirements of companies and what they need to consider in a world in which data is growing constantly. He will also take a look into the future and highlight what technologies are around the corner and how companies should plan their networking and storage infrastructure of the future.
