Local software for enhanced security operations

BetaTrac Telematic Solutions (BTS) is a local company specialising in real-time geo-surveillance and tracking of people and vehicles. The company provides various integrated solutions and services, such as eGuard, a GPS-enabled tracking device within an armband worn on the security officer’s upper arm (keeping the officer’s hands free and the unit out of harm’s way). Not only does eGuard track the movement of people via GPS every 30 seconds, 24/7/365, it also includes a panic button for emergencies.

RapidTrac-Compact is a similar solution for security vehicles that tracks the vehicle’s location as well as monitors vehicle behaviour via telematics. eGuard and RapidTrac-Compact are integrated via BTS’s AIMSS (Analytical Intelligent Management Security Solution) management platform.

What this means is that when a guard on patrol is in duress or needs urgent support, by pressing a panic button, the AIMSS software goes into System Alert mode, locating the guard’s position and showing all the details, including medical data of the guard on duty. The software then locates the nearest vehicle, taking pressure off the control room operators in finding the nearest response vehicle – the AIMSS platform does this automatically, making the vehicle dispatch process as fast and efficient as possible.

AIMSS is a locally developed platform that makes managing your security officers and response vehicles out in the field easier, as well as providing an overview of all operations on a single screen. Over the 12 years of operations, BTS has improved AIMSS continually, whereby its current status is a real-time information, proactive resource users soon find they can’t do without. With its AI (artificial intelligence) algorithms, AIMSS can predict device status and failures, ensuring the equipment is always at 100% operational standards at all times for maximum service and efficiencies.

Keith Lawrence, CEO of BetaTrac Telematic Solutions, says the platform now comprises millions of lines of code and has matured along with the security industry to provide the information – including its latest, video footage from BTS’s third-generation body-worn cameras, either by Wi-Fi or 4G – that control room operators need to make effective decisions related to safety and security. In addition, the platform will also provide maintenance information about the BTS devices being used, such as low battery, offline, panic alerts, and procedure violations.

More than simply using locally developed software, BTS also uses local companies to manufacture its security attire – such as the armband, the lightweight vest for body-worn cameras and so forth, including its latest release, the eTrac vehicle tracking system, a quick, smart reusable tracking system for vehicles entering residential or business estates, such as visitors, couriers or service vehicles, tracking their every movement every 30 seconds in real time with full history reporting.

To ensure communications between control rooms and the BTS products in the field, the company makes use of multiple communications protocols, including GSM, GPRS and is now developing its LoRa product range (LoRaWAN is a Low-Power Wide-Area Network specification intended for wireless battery-operated devices in a regional, national or global network).
