South African pioneer of video-based licence-plate recognition (LPR) solutions, as well as the recipient of its fair share of criticism, Visec in sub-Saharan Africa has been bought out, restructured and has a new management team at the helm.
Under new ownership and management, the company has been and will continue to invest heavily in re-inventing its local and organically grown technology that will see the company offering AI-driven analytics via its Visec Cloud Platform, systems, and mobile apps. The evolving technology driven solutions will enable a continuous growth of back-end intelligence to move LPR-dependent tools to a broader object-profiling role for better and more functional provision of crime fighting and related tools. All while fulfilling it data protection obligation and full check-the-checkers audit process.
Visec chief strategist, Jason Berry, says the company has forged working relationships with neighbourhood watches and community organisations, security companies, as well as SAPS, providing real-time tools enabling it to quickly identify vehicles of interest (VoI) and provide the mechanisms for these organisations and the police to take the necessary action, in near real time. Berry adds that by its users maintaining a fully independent and active multi-levelled VoI database, Visec has completely removed its reliance on often outdated, less than suitably and often static third-party databases, resulting in erroneous action being taken against the wrong party.
Visec does this via its combination of a secured/audited platform, artificial intelligence and rules-based systems and processes, and manually verified Alert Verification system and personnel, all under the oversite of the independent data custodians. The system is fully automated, but still uses human operators to follow set operating procedures, such as vehicle verification and following the case-by-case instructions provided by the uploading party as and when appropriate.
Berry adds that LPR as we know it is already near end-of-life as the Visec system is integrated with advanced and intelligent AI applications and analytics that actually make a difference in the level of safety and security of citizens. The company is also engaging with installers and integrators, offering training and certifications to its partners/agents to ensure they are able to participate in this rapidly growing industry and offer its national customers the best LPR services available via local operators.
