Cargo theft is brazen. Thieves will take valuable cargo from stationary or moving vehicles without giving a thought to being apprehended. The theft takes place so quickly that the likelihood of security forces being able to get there in time is insignificant, making crime pay.
Most cargo carriers monitor their trucks, but unless they use armed guards they are unable to prevent theft of their cargo. While the cargo is insured, thefts just jack up premiums.
KGB Security Systems developed a pepper gas spray system to prevent criminals from looting vehicles. On opening a door or curtain to the cargo area, pepper gas is activated with a two-second spray and the perpetrators will be forced to vacate the vehicle. Any re-entry will result in further activations of the gas.
For long haul vehicles, KGB Security can arm and disarm the system installed in vehicles throughout South Africa, and neighbouring countries, from its Johannesburg control room. The driver is unable to deactivate the system. As the criminals are unable to access the cargo area it allows time for other security measures to kick in.
