New AC2x00 series from ViRDI

April 2017 Access Control & Identity Management, Integrated Solutions

UnionCommunity and ViRDI Distribution SA have announced the release of the next generation of ViRDI biometric terminals. With the advancements in processing power, memory modules, fingerprint scanning technology, RS-485 OSDP transmission protocols and Bluetooth Low Energy technology, the current generation has been due to be replaced by more modern and efficient edge devices.

Featuring the latest variant of the ARM9 processor, NOR, NAND and/or DDR memory modules, the new FAS06 fingerprint scanning module, as well as being IP65-rated across all variants of the AC2x00 family, the new terminals are quicker, more accurate, more application-friendly and more reliable than their predecessors.

Units that have Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) modules as part of their specification can make use of the ViRDI MobileKey (IMKey) service where an Android or iOS smart mobile device – typically a cellular telephone – can be used to grant visitors and employees access by simply making use of the phone’s Bluetooth capability and accessing a free-to-download application from either Google Play or iTunes. By using BLE, ViRDI is now also able to offer the UNIS-B PLUS application to manage and programme devices that have that ability.

AC2000

Aimed at the access control market, the AC2000 is the entry-level device in the family, with pricing and specifications to match. The unit features:

• 1500 user count that can be upgraded by a software licence to 3000 and 10 000 users.

• 3000 fingerprint templates on-board that can be upgraded by the above software licence to 6000 and 20 000.

• 32 b NOR and 64 Mb DDR RAM.

• 51 000 log capacity.

• RS-485 OSDP transmission protocol to MCP040 4-door controller.

• BLE for MobileKey and UNIS-B PLUS.

• IP65-rated.

• 125 kHz or 13,56 mHz proximity card reader.

• Mini-USB port.

The AC2000 does not have a display screen or function buttons and is not for use in time and attendance applications and cannot be used with the ViRDI Meal Management module in the UNIS Command and Control Software suite. Programming and setup is done via the UNIS-B PLUS

application that is free to download from Google Play or Apple iTunes.

AC2100PLUS

Aimed at both the entry and mid-level access control and time and attendance market, the AC2100PLUS has slightly higher specifications than its smaller compatriot. The unit features:

• 1500 user count that can be upgraded by software licence to 3000 users.

• 3000 fingerprint templates on-board that can be upgraded by the above software licence to 6000.

• 32 Mb NOR and 128 Mb NAND Flash memory.

• 100 000 log capacity.

• 1,77-inch colour LCD.

• RS-485 OSDP transmission protocol to MCP040 4-door controller.

• IP65-rated.

• 125 kHz or 13,56 mHz proximity card reader.

Since the AC2100PLUS features a display screen and function buttons, it can be used for time and attendance applications and the ViRDI Meal Management module in the UNIS Command and Control Software suite. It has no BLE built into the device and, as such, cannot be used for MobileKey applications and the UNIS-B PLUS application cannot be used to program the unit.

AC2200

Aimed at both the mid-level to higher end of the access control and time and attendance market. Although the AC2200 has been available for some time in South Africa, the release of the rest of the AC2x00 family has enforced a change to specifications. The unit features:

• 1500 user count that can be upgraded by software licence to 5000 and 10 000 users.

• 3000 fingerprint templates on-board that can be upgraded by the above software licence to 10 000 and 20 000.

• 640 x 480 digital camera.

• 32 Mb NOR, 128 Mb NAND Flash and 64 Mb DDR memory.

• 100 000 event log and photo log.

• 1,77-inch colour LCD.

• RS-485 OSDP transmission protocol to MCP040 4 door controller.

• IP65-rated.

• 125 kHz or 13,56 mHz proximity card reader.

• BLE for MobileKey and UNIS-B PLUS.

• Mini-USB port.

Programming and setup is done either via the legacy capability on the unit itself or via the UNIS-B PLUS BLE app, which is free to download.
