Forbatt SA has announced the ICASA-approved, IP67-rated DSJ-U1 body-worn camera range from Kedacom. The two cameras in the range are protected from drops of up to two metres and run on the Android platform, which Kedacom has customised for law enforcement duties.
The devices include a 13 MP wide-angle high-resolution camera with H.264 video compression as standard. They also support two video streams, one running at 1080p and the second at D1 resolution, both at 25 frames per second (fps). Bi-directional audio is also supported in both. For operations in situations where the light is poor, or at night, the body-worn cameras sport two white LED and two infrared LED lights with a viewing distance of up to 15 m.
The DSJ-U1-L supports 3G and 4G network transmission using Kedacom’s KWTP protocol designed to improve video stream continuity on an unstable network. The same protocol is used for Wi-Fi transmission, which is available on the DSJ-U1-L and DSJ-U1-W models.
Both models offer 2.2-inch touch-screen displays as well as physical buttons for push-to-talk functionality, audio recording, snapshots and event tagging. GPS functionality is standard, as is the ability to add additional memory via SD cards if the 2 GB of RAM is insufficient.
With a replaceable 2700 mAh battery, the body-worn cameras have a standby time of up to 48 hours and a recording capacity of up to six hours.
