FTTH Council announces fibre conference

September 2016 News & Events, Infrastructure

This year, during the fifth annual FTTH (fibre-to-the-home) Council Africa Conference, a focused campaign will be launched to assist and educate homeowners’ associations and residential communities on the benefits of deploying fibre in their areas and how to ensure they receive the services best suited for their particular requirements.

Themed ‘The Future of Smart’, communities and homeowners’ associations will be given the opportunity to discuss best practices and technologies with various operators and service providers from 13h00 on 4 October at the Century City Conference Centre in Cape Town.

Gated communities and suburban home owners’ associations have become a key focus for the FTTH industry in South Africa. Over the last 18 months, many of them decided to no longer wait for fibre to reach them, they have taken the step to take ownership of fibre deployment in their areas and gone to tender to find the best possible solution for the community in which they work, live and play.

Many communities wish to follow this trend but are uncertain where to start, and which evaluation criteria to consider when adjudicating tenders. This open session will offer insight into creating tender documents, services and benefits to consider, and how best to structure a financial model for residents and businesses.

“We aim to make this an annual session,” says Juanita Clark, FTTH Council Africa CEO, “where we can not only evaluate year-on-year progress, but also explore innovative solutions brought to light as the industry matures. We believe that, by bringing end users and operators together this workshop will initiate dialogue and engagement with a multitude of role players in the industry.”

The annual FTTH Council Africa Conference will be hosted in Cape Town at the Century City Conference Centre, from 4 to 6 October. To view the agenda or to register, visit www.ftthcouncilafrica-conference.com
