Integrating guards and technology

1 May 2016 Conferences & Events

No matter how much technology you have in place, estates will always need a manned guarding presence on the perimeter and inside the estate. The reality is there is nothing more comforting to nervous residents than seeing a guard out on patrol, even if we know that guards are not the ultimate in crime prevention.

Hi-Tech Security Solutions and Rob Anderson will be hosting a full day Residential Estate Security Conference in Durban on 22 June at the Durban Country Club. Two presentations at the event will be focused on guarding and manpower issues.

Ettiene de Lange, security manager for the Ebotse Home Owners Association will address the issue of guarding, specifically ensuring your human security component performs effectively and delivers more than simply a visible presence. To accomplish this lofty goal requires hiring the right people, training them properly and effective deployment in the appropriate areas.

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to ensure your people meet the expectations of the Home Owners’ Association or the residents. Ettiene will not only discuss how to choose and train your guarding personnel, but will also focus on how to keep them motivated and immune to unpleasant residents while meeting the demands of your security plan.

Of course, in today’s security environment you can’t only rely on guards. Technology has advance to the point where it is a vital component of guarding, but guards are not always aware of the benefits of technology, nor are they trained to make optimal use of it for their own safety. Similarly, security operations often miss out on improving their security posture by ignoring the benefits technology can deliver.

Glenn Allen of Enforce Security Services will follow Ettiene and discuss the integration of guards and technology. He will speak on the need to effectively integrate security manpower and technology in order to achieve an efficient security solution. Moreover, Glenn will offer an overview of the challenges involved in integration and provide proven solutions to problems estates commonly face.

The full day Residential Estate Security Conference 2016 will be held in Durban on 22 June 2016, at the Durban Country Club from 9.00 am to 3.30 pm. The cost to attend is R1200, which includes lunch, refreshments throughout the day as well as ample networking opportunities.
