Why climb a fence when you can come in the front gate?

1 May 2016 Conferences & Events

Of all the points of vulnerability in a residential estate, the gate (or gates) is the most vulnerable. It is therefore the area most people focus on first when it comes to security and it is often the area with the most security personnel and technology installed in the effort to keep undesirables out. Yet, many criminals still manage to easily waltz in, seemingly without a care.

Hi-Tech Security Solutions and Rob Anderson will be hosting a full day Residential Estate Security Conference in Durban on 22 June at the Durban Country Club. One of the conference’s presentations will be by Fraser Matchett of Powell Tronics, who will discuss how estates can get results from access control and visitor management solutions.

Effective access control today is a science, simply having a gate or a boom, or even adding a guard with a visitors’ book will no longer suffice in a world where criminals are better financed and prepared than their victims. Fraser will examine the core requirements of an effective access control system and look at some future trends in this area. He will then delve into the world of visitor management, looking at how today’s solutions address the needs of estates for quick and easy access without sacrificing security.

Key to any access and visitor management system is collaboration. The security team at the gate can’t be expected to do it all, residents must also take responsibility for their own security and the collective security of their neighbours by working with security to control who gains access, when and for how long. Together, the security of the estate as a whole will benefit and delays at the gate can be kept to a minimum.

The full day Residential Estate Security Conference 2016 will be held in Durban on 22 June 2016, at the Durban Country Club from 9.00 am to 3.30 pm. The cost to attend is R1200, which includes lunch, refreshments throughout the day as well as ample networking opportunities.
