Radio Data Communications’ SMX is an SMS-based messaging and switching unit that replaces the company’s previous TX-SMS model. The unit is simple to use despite the fact it boasts new features and more power. It has also received a facelift for a sleeker appearance; this extends inside and out, and is reflected in a gold PCB and programming interface.
Next-generation software makes programming intuitive and easy, with logical screen layouts, simple option selections and clear onscreen diagrams with explanations. The number of message recipients has been upped to ten, with a message distribution programming page allowing the user to control exactly who gets which messages. Messages can also be sent to up to four different base stations.
The SMX unit has seven onboard hardwired inputs for reporting two onboard relays for switching. A new I/O expander module provides an additional two optically isolated inputs, a multi-purpose analogue input and six additional relays.
DSC users in particular can benefit from the serial integration with the SMX and the features it presents.
It is possible to use a phone to arm/disarm the unit by partition in ‘stay’ or ‘away’ mode. The SMS command can be simplified by using one of the command shortcuts, and a message reply with status information provides confirmation that a request has been actioned.
The new TurboCID feature speeds up CID communication without sacrificing compatibility, and a refined programming interface makes managing CID message distribution easy. The SMX’s advanced ‘if-this-then-that’ functionality can automatically send remote commands to another SMX or other device following a specific trigger.
