Integrating logistics and security systems

July 2015 Conferences & Events

Reditron has a long history in South Africa. It was originally founded in 1991 and eventually bought by Norbain and renamed Norbain (SA). After a management buyout, in June 2013 the company was acquired by Regal Distributors SA. IP Security Solutions (IPSS), which was a division of Regal, merged with Reditron after the acquisition with the goal of creating a more formidable IP distribution company within the security solutions sector.

At the breakfast, Reditron showcased the latest SeeTec Cayuga R6 logistics module. This solution was well positioned for the 70+ delegates that attended as it addressed their requirements and issues they experience on a day-to-day basis. Brian Wynberger, Reditron’s national technical manager, presented Reditron’s company profile and Seetec’s company profile and products to the audience.

Alex Jonker, Reditron’s product specialist, was also on hand to offer demonstrations and answer any questions on the Seetec solution. Nadia Vlok from Ideco, demonstrated the latest Sagem Morpho Sigma Reader and MorphoTablet on the Reditron stand.

Wynberger explained that the SeeTec’s solution can be embedded into any kind of security and business ecosystem. Among other features, its logistics module has been designed to offer clients seamless tracking of shipments from goods received to goods dispatched. It also assists companies in synchronising image data (video) and business processes to facilitate searching for particular shipments or events based on shipment number, loading list, etc.

The system is based on an open platform which allows clients to use a variety of cameras, including analogue cameras with its video servers. It can also be integrated with wired or wireless barcode scanners and RFID readers that link goods with a timestamp in the SeeTec server, allowing the company to track an item through the business cycle via video.

Demonstrating the pedigree of the logistics software, two reference sites were mentioned. The first is DHL in Switzerland, where SeeTec supports business processes through integration with DHL’s warehouse management system, which is integrated with 50 analogue cameras.

The second was DPD, which uses the software at its delivery hubs in Germany and Austria. In this scenario, video interfaces with the warehouse management system and conveyor belts via a business application interface. DPD has over 900 cameras in each hub that are currently managed by SeeTec’s software.
