Camprosa 2015 conference in Cape Town

Camprosa, the Campus Protection Society of Southern Africa is set to host its 2015 international conference at the Table Bay Hotel in Cape Town from the 6th to 9th September 2015. This year’s conference will focus on crime trends at institutions and how to combat them.

There will be numerous additional presentations, as well as the Officer of the Year Award, sponsored this year by G4S.

Some of the latest presentations announced include those by Bernadette Duncan (MBE FRSA MBCI MInstLM), chief operating officer for the Association of University Chief Security Officers (AUCSO). Bernadette has lectured internationally on managing emergencies and has also achieved the Business Continuity Institute Certificate. In 2009 Bernadette was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire for her services to higher education.

She is also an independent consultant, specialising in the higher education sector, offering advice on organisational resilience and provision of staff training for emergency response/management and business continuity. Whilst the Chair of AUCSO Bernadette secured funding from the HE Funding Council for England, then managed an 18 months project to develop emergency management for Higher Education Institutions, which resulted in the publication of a good practice guide in May 2008 (reviewed and republished in 2014) and the development of a new emergency management course for HEIs.

Gerard Langenhoven, Divisional Commander: Fire and Life Safety South for the City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Services will be presenting on a Rational Design Approach for Universities. He sports 28 years of experience with the Fire and Rescue Service, 12 years operational and 16 years in fire safety.

Another speaker will be the renowned Francis Cronjé, founder and MD, franciscronje.com and CEO at InfoSeal. Cronjé is an information governance specialist with a strong legal background and years of practical experience, advising large entities on the powerful impact of PoPi. He obtained a LLM degree from the University of Oslo’s Norwegian Research Centre for Computers and Law, specialising in data protection and advised Parliament on PoPi, where he served on the relevant portfolio, technical and NCOP committees. He is the co-author of POPI – 101 Questions & the co-author and editor of Cyberlaw@SA. He serves as the IAPP’s chairperson in Cape Town and also acts as an adjudicator and appeal panellist at WASPA and ISPA. He has written numerous articles and is a regular speaker on PoPi and ICT law.
