No-hands alcohol testing

April 2015 Integrated Solutions

Testing staff members at the factory gate for alcohol use can be very problematic if there are large numbers of people to test, resulting in bottlenecks; employees are aggressive and/or uncooperative; and/or those operating the system struggle to interpret results. The Lifeloc FC5 Sentinel from PSA is wall-mounted and operator free, solving all these difficulties.

“The Lifeloc FC5 Sentinel is a high-end professional grade breathalyser that is independent of an operator. It is ideal for work environments where safety is critical and alcohol use is not tolerated. Large numbers of employees can be tested quickly as the unit resets almost instantly if the result is negative,” said Mike Crossland of PSA.

Testing is fast, accurate and alcohol-specific. The user simply blows towards the wall-mounted unit, which responds immediately with a positive or negative result. The icons that appear on the easy-to-read screen are clear and simple to interpret.

“The FC5 Sentinel can be integrated into the company’s existing access control system, so that the employee’s entry is automatically blocked if the result is positive, or they’re allowed to proceed into the premises if the result is negative.”

The Lifeloc FC5 Sentinel

The Lifeloc FC5 Sentinel is ideal for use in highly safety-aware locations with zero-tolerance of alcohol such as oil and gas refineries; construction sites; the maritime industry; mining and general industry because:

• It resets quickly if there is a negative result, eliminating logjams.

• It automatically activates as the subject begins to blow.

• It is alcohol specific and very accurate.

• The unit’s housing is rugged enough for rough conditions and protects the unit from dust, vibration, condensation and tampering.

• It is easy to service, maintain and calibrate.

• The full colour LCD screen makes readings easy to understand.

• Logos, test sequences and messaging can be customised to suit company requirements.
