Biometrics for fraud prevention

February 2015 Access Control & Identity Management

Let’s be realistic, where there is temptation, there will be opportunists. We need to put measures in place to reduce the element of risk.

As an SI (systems integrator), Trac-Tech builds solutions for a multitude of needs. Fraud prevention in the workplace has become one of the most common needs in recent times.

Loss of stock, consumables and even time, when not monitored or controlled can cost businesses millions. This is why by implementing the correct solution will not only pay for itself, but will also help identify the bad apples – and the good apples for that matter.

Using biometric hardware for access control and time management is the most secure, easily accessible method of identity management and identity authentication. Knowing who is onsite, in designated areas and for how long ensures accountability. This accountability is a large deterrent for the potential opportunist.

Facial recognition is fast becoming the leader in biometric technology. The cost is often less than fingerprint and with a dual sensor facial recognition algorithm such as Face-ID, the speed and accuracy is better too. From a health and spreading germs point of view, not having to touch the device will also help reduce sick leave.

The use of strategically placed Face-ID devices will ensure the best reduction in risk and best return on investment. E.g. A Face-ID device installed on either side of a turnstile at the entrance to your high value area. This will be able to limit only authorised persons through that location and give you the ability to know who went through, when and for how long they were there.

Fraud prevention in the workplace conclusion: by implementing the correct control measures, one is able to identify the risk and hold the relevant parties accountable.
