Elvey volunteers drop security for 67 minutes

September 2014 News & Events

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was once quoted as saying, “A nation should not be judged by how it treats its highest citizens, but its lowest”. This is the spirit of Ubuntu, the spirit of showing humanity towards others, the spirit of human kindness . . . the spirit of the legend called Madiba. 2014 was the first Mandela day without the former head of state present to sprinkle his Madiba Magic over us, but Elvey Security Technologies made sure his vision lived on.

Over the last two years the Hudaco Group partnered with Afrika Tikkun, an organisation that strives to empower communities to develop new generations of productive citizens, in celebrating Nelson Mandela Day. This year, in commemoration of Madiba’s giving spirit, Afrika Tikkun together with Elvey Security Technologies and other companies, got involved in a shack building project in Gauteng. The aim of the initiative was to help build shelter for underprivileged families in this region, where Elvey was stationed in Orange Farm.

Elvey had the pleasure of building a home for a family of three which once lived in a poorly built one room shack that was hazardous to their safety. Thanks to the giving hearts of all involved, the family now has a renovated and safe place to call home. Evelyn Khumalo, the beneficiary of the home, says, “I’m so happy that my children can now sleep in their own room and thanks to Elvey, we can now be happy when it’s raining without worrying about getting wet.”
