Following close consultation with security printers, document owners and specifiers, Portals Bathford - the world's only security paper mill dedicated to the development and manufacture of high security paper - has launched a new product to beat fraudsters called Securitext.
Its coating contains toner bonding agents added during paper manufacture and is designed to provide the anti-fraud security of the impact printing process to the more vulnerable laser printing process.
The coating is highly receptive to toner images and, once fused with the paper by the laser printer, the image is protected from physical attack by tape, scalpel or eraser. Nonimpact laser printing is used extensively to add variable data direct from databases at high speed. Traditionally, this information has been added using solvent-based inks and impact printing, ensuring that the printed image was an integral part of the document and thus any physical attack provided visible tamper evidence. But the toners used by the speedier laser printing process are susceptible to physical interference that potentially compromises the security of the document.
