Miro distribution takes its responsibility to be a good corporate citizen very seriously. The company regularly engages in charity initiatives to improve the lives of others by contributing to the community.
In December, Miro held a charity event at the Sunnyside Child Welfare Drop-in Centre, where Santa Claus handed out lucky packets, hotdogs and cold drinks to the children.
“One of our values is to ‘improve the lives of others by contributing to the community’, and these are not just words on posters. We put action into these words by actively becoming involved in initiatives where we can make a difference,” explains Celia Roos, HR manager at Miro. “It is said that charity begins at home, and Miro truly believes in giving back. Last year alone, the total amount we contributed towards socio-economic development in our communities was R84 000.”
She explains that the visit by Santa Claus in December to the Child Welfare Drop-in Centre meant as much to the Miro staff that participated as it did to the children. “We had lots of fun, and even joined in a game of soccer. I can’t decide which was better: the joy on the children’s faces or the gladness in our hearts to be part of such a great initiative.
“For many of us, getting an education involves having a happy home, a good school, food to eat, stationery and a table and chair to do your homework at. Unfortunately, many children in this country – like those at the Child Welfare centre – do not have these privileges. That is why Miro donated tables, chairs, kitchenware, non-perishable food and stationery to these children. Miro strongly believes in the basic right to education for children. That is why we contribute to paying the monthly school fees and crê'che fees, as well as buying the stationery, for our warehouse staff’s children,” says Roos.
“To uplift, to edify, to see a smile, to build the future of our country, to help a child, our children, our youth, our tomorrow – these are the things Miro believes in. We will continue to play our part and try to make a difference wherever we can.”
