With passive recording, cameras on a perimeter cannot take action or alert the user when suspicious activity is present on the perimeter. On the other hand, only using motion detection will flood the user with an overload of warnings. Video content analysis (VCA) walks the middle ground by ranking suspicious activity based on intelligent rules.
Both Digi-IT and Mirasys software have a multitude of VCA features to enhance their capabilities. Object appear and disappear functions help to track important items, while speed and directional filters check the movement of people or vehicles, both for safety and security purposes. Multiple zones are available to accord different rules to different areas, as each area has its own unique criteria.
Loitering rules filter passers-by from hostile persons, and camera attack detection helps protect the equipment. Various inputs can also be used to further enhance the perimeter security, allowing equipment such as beams and energisers to be integrated into a central controlled environment.
At the high end of the spectrum Mirasys Carbon Reporting takes the information one level further. Using a standard Web browser the user can configure and pull any report they wish. The data can be exported in various formats such as .xls or .ppt. An audit trail is included in the package.
