About ESDA

January 2014 Associations

The Electronic Security Distributors’ Association (ESDA) was established in 1989. Below is a brief introduction to the association.

The Electronic Security Distributors’ Association (ESDA), established in 1989, is an association not for gain, and is registered in terms of Section 22 of the Companies Act, 61 of 1973. The main business activity of every member is the importation, distribution or manufacture (or a combination of these) of electronic security technology products, or the provision of services directly related to such importation, distribution or manufacture. It is of importance to note that members of ESDA are specifically excluded from performing installation of security equipment.

The objectives of ESDA are to:

* Promote high standards in electronic security technology products, workmanship, maintenance, and service to the electronic security equipment industry. ESDA members are invited to represent their company on the various SAIDSA technical sub committees in order to promote and specify minimum standards for installation product use.

* Maintain a high ethical standard of conduct within the industry.

* Promote, encourage and protect the interests’ of all its members.

* Represent the interests of members of ESDA in the context of any proposed or existing legislation, primary or subordinate, which may affect the ESDA members directly or indirectly.

Opportunities with ESDA

* Liaison with SAIDSA and other organisations.

* Technical networking with fellow members and SAIDSA members.

In addition, the following activities are available for ESDA members to participate in:

* Mini area based exhibitions such as the ESDA Roadshows.

* Annual exhibitions such as IFSEC and discounts to ESDA members when booking space at the IFSEC Security Exhibition.

* Promote the company with a half-page editorial in Hi-Tech Security Solutions.

* General meetings to make members aware of legislation pertinent to the industry and arrange specialist speakers on the relevant topics, for example the proposed new PSIRA Bill.

* Annual AGM.

* Golf Day: a great opportunity to relax on the golf course with customers.

This year ESDA will employ a part time secretary that will be based at a fixed address at the SAIDSA offices in Benoni. The strong synergy between the two associations make this the perfect situation.

By doing this we hope to communicate more effectively with ESDA members making them aware and involving members in all ESDA member benefits.

Current committee

At the AGM held on 16 October at the Italian Club in Bedfordview, members voted and elected the new committee for the forthcoming year. These are:

* Ray Wilsenach – Past Chairman.

* Des Whittal – Chairman.

* Xarion Comoretto – Vice Chairman.

* Linda Glieman.

* Mike Austen.

* Lee-Ann Andreka.

* Shaun Kaplan.

* Gary Lowe – Treasurer.

* Vivienne Dorrington – Co-opted member for special skills.
