Distributed Enhanced Processing Architecture (DEPA) Advanced

November 2013 Surveillance

Building upon existing success, DEPA Advanced (video analytics embedded on Sony IP cameras, encoders, recorders and RSM Advance monitoring software solutions which are available through Reditron) is an enhanced DEPA technology and now offers the highest quality image analysis and detection.

Video surveillance has historically been dependent upon human intervention and control, the system operator often providing the interface between alarm activations and required actions. The inability of the operator to monitor and process multiple alarm events is often cited as the weak point in traditional surveillance systems.

The recent introduction of intelligent video and alarm analysis has provided a reduction in operator workflow by the addition of pre-configured alarms, linked to pre-programmed actions. As a result of its processor intensive requirements video analysis can however be cost prohibitive for many systems, especially in the analogue environment.

In 2006 Sony, one of Reditron’s flagship products, introduced its unique Distributed Enhanced Processing Architecture (DEPA) which addresses this issue with an innovative design approach. DEPA is an embedded technology providing pre-processing of image data within its camera technology and post-processing of image data within its recording and monitoring solutions.

Intelligent use of network bandwidth

Alarm and image metadata generated by the camera is transmitted on demand to the recording solution where appropriate alarm actions may be initiated. This distributed architecture allows for intelligent use of network bandwidth and reduces the bottlenecks associated with existing video analysis systems.

Operating a continuous product development policy, Sony introduced DEPA Advanced technology. Building upon existing success, DEPA Advanced is an enhanced DEPA technology and now offers the highest quality image analysis and detection. Using Sony’s Intelligent Motion Detection (IMD) to determine real or environmental movement and Intelligent Object Detection (IOD) to monitor the image for violation of a pre-determined rule, DEPA Advanced provides highly accurate image metadata to the recording and monitoring solution for alarm activation and processing.

A comprehensive range of enhanced pre-determined alarm filters include tamper alarm, virtual fence, trip wire, missing object, people counting and anti-loiter options, audio analysis completes the range of advanced features on offer with DEPA Advanced technology.

Flexible, scalable solutions

Sony offers a comprehensive range of embedded DEPA Advanced products from the Sony HD/Full HD, SNC-CH (CS-type) and SNC-DH (Minidome), SNC-RH EP/ER PTZ cameras and SNT-EX/EP encoders to NSR-500 recorders and RSM Advanced monitoring software solutions. A comprehensive range of accessories combine to provide the complete DEPA Advanced end to end solution.

Minimising false alarms while maximising operator workflow and bandwidth usage, DEPA Advanced offers the optimum in cost effective, flexible and scalable video analysis solutions.
