Combating theft in dispatch and receiving areas can prove to be a huge challenge and research has shown that this is where commercial theft is rife. AC/DC Dynamics offers a new service to assist in securing these areas.
Working together with installers, the company carries out a professional risk survey, at no extra cost to its clients, to determine the best solution for the situation.
During inspections, the company often finds the primary weaknesses caused by two specific aspects:
1. The CCTV camera/s are positioned in artificial light (200 lux) or possibly focused directly on the bay area which is flooded with natural light (10 000 lux), with the result, captured footage may be deemed unusable/indistinguishable or non-admissible as evidence.
2. The second challenge is created when the client installs a camera system, with the false belief that it will solve the problem overnight without making any procedural changes whatsoever.
The security professionals that review the site will need to fully understand all the SOPs (standard operating procedures) within these two critical operational areas of the business and spend some time making sure that every eventuality is catered for. These should be discussed with the decision makers and not the people who the system is designed to catch. The solution should highlight areas of concern and identify potential areas for criminal activity.
Consider interfacing the security system to the back-end office system for clock synchronisation and bar code scanning. Consideration could include an option for camera footage of the delivery and dispatch documentation for better control and monitoring.
No matter what the solution decision is, make sure that all employees understand the new SOPs and if they do not implement the new processes that they understand that they could be under suspicion. Furthermore, it is a legal requirement that warning signage be visible in the areas of monitoring.
By implementing a deterrent and removing the threat and there will be an instant benefit on the bottom line, resulting in greater profits and better controls.
