The South African Intruder Detection Services Association (SAIDSA) has solid plans this year for its members and the security industry as a whole. Now in its 45th year, SAIDSA continues to grow its strength and presence in the South African alarm and CCTV security industry.
SAIDSA is an association of service providers of security systems, ranging from basic alarms to sophisticated electronic intruder detection systems and CCTV, incorporating signal monitoring as well as the provision of armed reaction services. It is regarded as the watchdog of this segment of the industry and has the interests of both its members and the public at heart.
There are four different categories under the SAIDSA umbrella of membership:
(1) Corporate members. This category of membership refers to the member companies which install, repair and maintain alarm systems and operate an in-house monitoring service.
(2) Associate members. This category of membership refers to the member companies which install, repair and maintain security systems, but who may not operate an in-house monitoring or reaction service.
(3) Central station providers. This category of membership refers to a member company that provides a monitoring service, largely to those companies that do not operate an in-house monitoring service.
(4) Reaction service member. The reaction service member provides armed reaction. Due to the localised nature of such members, the armed reaction company sometimes offers its services to its fellow members or to the public.
All the member companies found in the four different categories are guided by a code of conduct from the point of their affiliation.
Johan Krog, chairperson of SAIDSA, shares the association’s plans for 2013. “We are planning the creation and policing of standards for the electronic industry, the upliftment of skills through training and the protection of the interests of our members.”
About SAIDSA’s 2013 plans, he says, “We are creating standards for the installation and off-site monitoring of CCTV systems. We are also creating training material for CCTV installations, liaising with the insurance industry and assisting our current members in the new legal requirements for electric fence certification.
“We are also going to market our branches by way of provincial breakfasts and road shows in conjunction with ESDA. We will also be doing national inspections of all members and continue ongoing discussions with PSIRA and SASSETA with respect to technician registration.”
