March 2013 Access Control & Identity Management

The installation of two Besam ADS Unislide bi-parting units by Pedestrian Door Solutions (PDS), a division of ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems South Africa, has improved the efficiency of refrigerators and air conditioning at The Hill KwikSpar in Pretoria, Gauteng.

The Hill KwikSpar’s Jorrie Jordaan was pleased when, after lengthy negotiations, Spar South Africa decided to go ahead with the installation. “The existing manual folding doors with air curtains and roller shutters, were not at all convenient. The new Besam sliding doors, on the other hand, have solved the day-to-day problems we encountered at the store which included heat and insects in the store, as well as difficulties with the control of customer-flow through the entrance and exit.

“We are without a doubt reaping the benefits of the new door system,” continues an upbeat Jordaan. ”By keeping weather conditions outside without any disruption within the building, we have seen a marked improvement in the efficiency of our refrigeration and air conditioners which is not only ideal for our cold stock and convenient for our customers, but it also reduces our energy bill and shrinks our carbon footprint.

“The installation was done quickly and efficiently with minimum disruption to our customers and trade and I would recommend this Besam system to all retailers without hesitation,” concludes Jordaan.

“All sliding door operators are linked to fire alarm systems for safety and easy evacuation while the stand-open times of the sliding doors are reduced to prevent the air conditioned atmosphere from escaping and causing draughts,” adds André Aiton, MD, ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems.
