EOH has three core offerings which form the basis of its business: technology, consulting and outsourcing. “We see ourselves as an African organisation and we provide technology, knowledge, skills and the ability to organise – all things that Africa needs. We aim to conduct business based on the needs of society and we want to be relevant to the society we live in,” says CEO, Asher Bohbot. With a market capitalisation of R4,1 billion and a compounded annual growth of 44% for the last 14 years, the company operates in a wide range of industries, including mining, financial services, public sector and retail.
Job creation initiative
EOH is also very aware of the unemployment situation in South Africa. There are over 4,5 million unemployed young people in the country and hundreds of thousands of school leavers have nowhere to go. EOH believes that business has a major role to play, unlike elsewhere in the western world where companies engage only in creating wealth for the shareholders.
Statistics show that a youngster who has even a small amount of work experience has 10 times more chance of getting a permanent job. To this end, EOH has launched its Job Creation Initiative aimed at stimulating job creation by interacting with its customers, business partners and government. The emphasis is on young people and EOH has taken 620 school leavers and university graduates into an intern training programme. EOH plans to retain the majority of them in the business, based entirely on merit.
“Ours is a sophisticated business and the quality of youth in this country is much better than generally expected. We want to spread the word, and get business participation. If companies could just focus on interns and learnerships the private sector could take a very large number of youngsters into business – and government schemes cover the majority of the costs. It is a great business proposition, it is rewarding and it s good for business,” he concludes.
