One of the biggest problems arising when a biometric fingerprint reader is installed on a door is the possibility of an intruder removing the reader from the door, accessing the wiring and subsequently gaining access to the building.
Union Community has developed the BLC-015 secure door controller and battery charger as a solution to this issue, according to Virdi Distribution’s product manager, Chris Grauls.
The ViRDI BLC-015 can be linked to any main ViRDI biometric fingerprint reader to turn an access control installation into a secure installation. It is mounted on the secure (interior) side of the door. The ViRDI biometric reader mounted on the exterior of the door sends a signal to the BLC-015 via either Wiegand or 485, instructing it to open the door. Users can set the door opening time from between 1 and 8 seconds.
“If the external reader is damaged or knocked off the wall, the wires will be exposed, but because of the BLC-015, the door will have increased resistance to interference. Therefore, one could securely control a door with a BLC-015, negating the need for an expensive access control board, in the process making your installation more cost effective,” said Grauls.
In addition to the control capabilities of the BLC-015, it also acts as a battery charger, charging the battery to an optimal 13.5 V.
