Counting more than 39 000 visitors, Security Essen ended on September 28, 2012. With more than 1000 square metres, Bosch Security Systems was one of the biggest exhibitors at the trade show.
“With visitors from over 40 countries, Security Essen is the most important trade fair for us,” says Gert van Iperen, chairman of the board of management for Bosch Security Systems. The company highlighted a number of products at the show, including the following.
Cloud-based security and services
Many small- and medium-sized businesses have similar security requirements as large applications but often lack sufficient funds to recruit their own security personnel or invest in professional security technology. With Cloud-based Security & Services, Bosch provides a video monitoring service specifically designed for this group: It secures buildings remotely via the Internet and allows users to stay in touch with the situation at their business premises via an app at any time. Bosch could rely on the in-house expertise of its product and service divisions throughout the entire product development and implementation. Cloud-based Security & Services will be available at the end of this year.
iSCSI disk arrays
The new DSA E-Series (digital storage appliance) represents the second generation of iSCSI disk arrays from Bosch. They are designed to meet the increasing needs of security installations to archive all digital video data in one place. The storage solution provides both high bandwidth and availability for large applications requiring HD quality video surveillance. Up to seven expansion shelves (12 x 2 TB HDD per expansion shelf) can be connected to one controller unit to reach 192 TB.
Furthermore, two redundant array of independent disks (RAID) options, a technology that combines multiple disk drive components into one logical unit are offered: RAID-5 protection for capacity-oriented environments and RAID-6 protection for availability-oriented environments that require a large number of disk shelf expansion units. This solution will reduce the costs for the data storage more than 30%. The units are available from September 2012.
HD IP cameras are important recent additions to the Bosch Video System portfolio. While these cameras enhance safety, security operators consequently have large storage requirements when archiving the resulting video data. The new DSA E-Series iSCSI Disk Arrays offer a single network solution that provides high levels of security, data protection and scalability, as well as simple video data management. The product is designed for medium to large applications, such as airports, train stations and shopping malls.
OMNEO media networking architecture
Supporting full interoperability and ease of use, OMNEO architecture provides a common set of tools with which media devices from diverse manufacturers can communicate over standard digital networks. The OMNEO architecture shares both program content and system control in order to provide users with a powerful, integrated multi-vendor solution. Interoperability can be achieved for media transport, control data or both.
“With OMNEO we are enabling our customers to enjoy fully standardised media networks in which not only Bosch equipment, but also products from various other manufacturers interoperate smoothly,” says Ethan Wetzell, platform strategist at Bosch Security Systems. “We are bringing together Bosch solutions with emerging public standards, such as AVB (Audio Video Bridging), and provide a standard Ethernet infrastructure for all kinds and sizes of applications.”
