Turnstar recently launched the Talon uni-directional mechanical tyre spike at IFSEC South Africa 2012. The Talon provides one-way vehicular security. A vehicle is able to drive over the spikes in the authorised direction; however, if a vehicle drives over the spikes in an unauthorised direction, the spikes remain upright and will puncture the tyre.
The Talon is available in 0,5 m and 1,0 m lengths which can be joined to cover an entire roadway. The Talon can be manufactured as a surface mount unit, to be bolted directly to the roadway, and as a recessed trough design, to be installed beneath the road surface. Two spike heights are available, 85 mm and 65 mm depending on the security requirements of the site. Each spike is connected to a spring piston system which is designed to operate even when submerged in water and is patented.
