My involvement in CCTV surveillance was strongly shaped by a number of people in the casino industry. One of the first among these, and one of the most important, was John Radford. John was a strong outspoken person who never let his thoughts go unsaid.
He was difficult at times, tough, and highly committed to his work. We had a number of stimulating discussions about behaviour, detection and catching people that formed much of my approach to CCTV today. Despite a tough exterior, he was helpful, encouraging and loved progress.
John was murdered on the 20th August during his retirement in Kirkwood in the Eastern Cape. He had an intense belief in the importance of service and he met his death in search of his precious medals which had been stolen. I, and I am sure many of his other friends and colleagues, would like to salute him for his service to the industry, and his friendship. John Radford, RIP.
