HID sells 75 million contactless smartcards

May 2001 Access Control & Identity Management

HID Corporation recently announced that it had sold 75 million contactless smartcards, indicating that it is positioned to be a key player in a marketplace that continues to show good growth worldwide. The company produces its SmartProx and IQCard lines of contact and contactless smartcards, and partners with major manufacturers such as Gemplus and Schlumberger to provide smartcard solutions.

HID provides a wide range of access control and computer security products. The company pioneered the development of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology for security and smartcard applications, and has shipped over 100 million cards, tags and other credentials to locations worldwide.
