Concerned with the recent rise in school violence and related issues, the San Bernadino City Unified School District in California, USA, has implemented an ID card system aimed at combating unauthorised entry on the district's campuses.
Considering the district is one of the largest in California and has over 7000 personnel plus a large number of regular visitors, this was no small undertaking. It called for a system that not only produced high-quality photo ID cards, but was fast, easy to use and portable. Above all, it had to be a cost-effective solution.
Card personalisation solution
To help solve the problem, the district's police department called in one of Fargo's integrators, Card Integrators. After analysing the district's needs, the company recommended its CARD-IT 2000 ID system.
The heart of the system is the printer from Fargo. Working in tandem with a JVC digital camera and Card Integrator's CARD-IT software, the printer produces high-quality, full-colour ID cards at a speed of just 40 s per card. In addition, its unique, compact design has fewer moving parts, is simple to operate and can be easily transported from one school to the next.
Since the implementation of the system, the district has badged over 7000 employees and visitors. Both the badges and the role they play in the new security program have been well received by employees, students and parents alike.
