South African company, Dex Security Solutions, has achieved a breakthrough in Eastern Europe by installing the first automatic access control system in Romania.
Dex’s system was specially installed at the Stadionul Ceahlaul in the city of Piatra Neamt for the recent UEFA international match between Romania and Luxembourg. It was the first time that access to a sports event in Romania was managed and controlled by an automatic system.
There were 0,3% unsuccessful attempts to bypass the system by using tickets twice. These were immediately picked up by the system.
Dex product development director, Marius van Niekerk, said this was the first step to empowering Romania in this field. The same technology can now be applied in various other fields in the country.
It is generally known that sporting and other events worldwide lose millions of rands as a result of fraud and counterfeit tickets.
The same ‘black-on-black technology’ that gives tickets copy protection, developed and patented by Dex in South Africa, is already being used by several stadia and at large meetings locally and in South America. Since each ticket is uniquely encoded, it is almost impossible to copy it. Even if done at high cost, the system will identify them as ‘illegal tickets’.
Dex’s latest success in South Africa was with access control at the A1 Grand Prix in Durban. Other successful applications were at all SA’s main cricket stadia, the upgrading of buildings in Hillbrow and the previous Cricket World Cup in South Africa.
