HID recognised for commitment to excellence
HID Global has been awarded Professional Security Installer (PSI) Magazine's Access Control Manufacturer Premier Award 2007, recognising the company's service to the UK's security industry. This is the third consecutive year that HID has been selected for this prestigious award.
Hosted annually by PSI magazine, the Premier Awards brings together the publication's readers including security installers, manufacturers and end users to select and honour outstanding security product manufacturers in recognition of product and customer service excellence. The coveted award is seen as one of the industry's most prestigious because its recipients are both nominated and voted for by the publication's professional security installers. The award was presented to HID on 5 June at the PSI Premier Golf Day held at Moor Park Golf Club, Hertfordshire, UK.
"We have an outstanding team at HID EMEA, and are proud to continually meet and exceed customer expectations and provide first-class customer service and after-sales support," said Tony Ball, HID's managing director for EMEA. "This award recognises our commitment to providing the highest level of customer service and product choice to all of our customers in EMEA."
Gemalto rolls out OTA campaign for AIS
Gemalto has completed a campaign for Advanced Info Service (AIS), Thailand's largest mobile operator, to update over-the-air (OTA) the information contained in the SIM cards of nearly 8 million subscribers. By updating the cards over the air, there was no need for the operator to mail out replacement cards or ask customers to come into an AIS point of sale. The campaign was completed in less than 40 days, translating into major benefits for AIS, including customer satisfaction, ARPU (average revenue per user) maintenance and cost savings.
The OTA was rolled out on the back of a decision from the National Telecommunication Commission (NTC) in Thailand to shift from a 9-digit, to a 10-digit dialling system so as to meet the telecommunications needs of the country for the next 30 years.
Electronic Passport Forum
With the endorsement of the European Commission, the fifth Electronic Passport Forum took place in June in Istanbul, hosted for the first time by a non-EU member state. Once again the event proved to be the platform of choice for experts from government, border control and law enforcement, as well as technology vendors, to discuss and learn more about the key issues relating to the introduction of digital citizen identity credentials.
Murat Basesgioglu, Turkish Minister of Labour and Social Security, opened the event by discussing the technology shift that the Turkish government has spearheaded since 2003, aimed at providing citizens with access to a variety of eGovernment services in the fields of customs, social security, education and justice. The Minister also announced the beginning of the electronic ID and social security card project in pilot areas as of July 2007.
The discussions that took place in Istanbul will continue at the Electronic Passport Forum conference at the ID World International Congress, the annual world summit on automatic identification, in Milan on 26 to 28 November.

Pelco get Superstar Award
Pelco won its 13th consecutive - and 15th overall - much-coveted PSA Security Network's Superstar Award at the PSA-Tec 2007 Conference.
The award, created to recognise the PSA vendor partners who provide outstanding service and quality products, was presented during a recent banquet at the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, Illinois. The annual competition began back in 1992, and Pelco has taken home the top prize each of the last 13 years. Carole Dougan, Pelco director - strategic accounts who accepted the award for the company, says this winning record does not diminish the pride Pelco takes in the recognition. "It is a huge honour because it is the members who vote."
Widely viewed as the security industry's most objective and comprehensive evaluation of manufacturers, the Superstar Award is given to the vendor who receives the highest score on a survey taken by PSA members. Scoring is based on seven performance categories: Technical Support, Price Advantage, Responsiveness, Ship Dates, Return Authorisations, Local Rep Support, and Product Quality and Reliability.

Bosch earns Frost & Sullivan award
Bosch Security Systems has announced that Frost & Sullivan, a global growth consulting organisation, has awarded the company its 2007 Video Surveillance Emerging Technology of the Year Award. Bosch's Direct-to-iSCSI RAID recording solution received the award because of its value to customers and IT personnel and its competitiveness against the networked video recorder (NVR).
With the introduction of the technology in 2006, Bosch is recognised by the industry as the world's first security solution manufacturer to offer this efficient video recording system to the market.
According to Frost & Sullivan, the iSCSI-based solution is likely to receive high acceptance from IT personnel involved in implementing IP-based video surveillance systems. The main benefit is that the solution reduces the burden of managing PC-based NVR solutions and updating their operating systems and anti-virus software.
This is the second industry award that Bosch's Direct-to-iSCSI RAID recording technology has received since the solution was introduced.
