New proximity access control network

June 2006 Access Control & Identity Management

Centurion Systems' new Lattice proximity access control system represents a revolution in networked access control technology. It offers a truly seamless migration path - from a standalone 1000 tag reader, all the way up to a fully fledged 32 reader system with a sophisticated PC interface with advanced management and reporting capabilities. This feature rich system is offered at affordable prices, and stands to bridge the gap between entry-level and high-end systems.

The Lattice network system is based on the new 13,56 MHz RFID technology, offering excellent read range. It also offers flexibility for expansion, and good longevity in a market that has recently moved away from a dating 125 kHz technology. Centurion Systems' has combined this technology with proprietary tag encryption techniques to provide a proximity system that offers true cutting-edge security.

The heart of the Lattice network is the L1000 controller. It is a standalone reader with the memory capacity to store up to 1000 tags. Simultaneously, the L1000 is the network controller, controlling up to an additional 31 Lattice Slave Heads (LSH). The network can be developed harmoniously with access control requirements - There is no need to discard old equipment as the system is scaled. While network integrity is maintained, all 1000 tags can be configured to grant access on any of the LSH devices. In the event of a network failure, any of the LSH devices can be programmed to store up to 40 unique tags for offline network use and maintenance.

The system can be further scaled by adding a PC to the network. The L1000 is connected to the PC via a Lattice take-up-head (TUH). The TUH provides the system administrator with a convenient tag reader for initial tag take-up and administration. Timed functions are added to the lattice feature list once a PC is integrated. These features include, event logging, time barring, timed anti-passback and time lock.
