The fifth ASIS International European Security Conference took place at the Acropolis Conference Centre in Nice, France from 23 to 26 April. The theme of the conference was 'Security Management - Enhancing Business Value'.
The conference was attended by more than 500 delegates representing 47 different countries and featured three keynote speakers and 32 educational sessions, covering a wide variety of topics and aspects to enhance the attendees' knowledge of the latest trends and strategies in areas ranging from corporate security management, security standards and benchmarking, supply chain security, crisis management, linking strategic planning and security programmes to various presentations on anti-terrorism.
Steve Whitehead of South Africa presented a paper on the topic of 'Corporate Counterintelligence - Enhancing Security and Business Continuity', making him the first South African practitioner to deliver a paper at an ASIS International conference.
The conference was attended by eight South African practitioners and consultants.
ASIS International is the largest international organisation for professionals responsible for security, including managers and directors of security. It has over 33 000 members worldwide. More and more security and management personnel are becoming involved with ASIS to better understand the constant changes in security issues and solutions. The organisation has over 70 members in South Africa. There are more than 200 chapters worldwide.
ASIS International is dedicated to increasing the effectiveness and productivity of security practices by developing educational programmes and materials that address broad security concerns, such as the ASIS Annual Seminar and Exhibits, as well as specific security topics.
