Stretching north to the capital city of Amsterdam, Highway A2 is one of the busiest in The Netherlands. As a result of a recent traffic expansion initiative, the Dutch government is implementing a state-of-the-art traffic control system, the goal of which is the creation of a safer, better-controlled highway that will decrease daily traffic jams.
Esprit from Pelco Europe, and available from Reditron, Johannesburg, was the product of choice on this demanding highway project.
Vibrations, hard winds, moisture and other elements force video security equipment to its limit. Accordingly, a system was needed that could withstand these extreme weather conditions, while providing high-quality images of the highway. The Pelco Esprit Positioning System's versatility, durability and proven performance make it a popular choice for demanding transportation-related installations.
The Amsterdam highway project called for 100 Esprit Positioning Systems, which are pole mounted with the Pelco Remote Data Port located at the base of each. Used in conjunction with the Pelco Remote Monitor Kit, transportation professionals now have instant ground-level access to the cameras. The handheld monitoring kit provides the ability to observe video, verify the operation of the PTZ controls, check the address and baud settings and program the positioning system without having to physically access the camera itself. The convenience of such a tool eliminates the expense and inefficiency of lane closures and lift trucks when needing to perform routine maintenance checks.
Fibre-optic modules have been installed along the highway to increase the transmission speed of the video signal to the operation centre.
