Employers need to protect their staff and their possessions as well as the company property from both employees and strangers with criminal intent. Systems need to be set in place to prevent or at least monitor theft, fraud and criminal acts committed by employees and others in the workplace.
Chubb believes it has the knowledge and expertise to assist organisations to dispel their security fears. The company is made up of four divisions in South Africa, namely Chubb Electronic Security (CES), Chubb Integrated Systems (CIS), Chubb Guarding and Chubb Fire Services, which incorporates Angus Fire.
CIS provides integrated or independent system solutions for access control, asset management, closed circuit television, fire detection, protection, suppression, intrusion fencing as well as public address and voice evacuation. The company has the ability to provide a total solution for its clients' risk management requirements and in addition, has an in-house design and commissioning office.
CCTV
Due to criminals becoming more and more cunning in their approach to crime, the need for increasingly sophisticated security equipment grows. The use of CCTV systems in both commercial and public environments is expanding and is likely to continue to expand given the success of systems introduced to date. CIS provides state-of-the-art CCTV solutions for security surveillance in industrial and commercial premises, car parks, financial institutions, shopping centres and town centres, as well as private residences.
In addition to the conventional security system, a CCTV system may be installed to allow for visual verification of events in and around properties and premises. These events can also be monitored remotely by the control centre and action taken based on what the operator is viewing at the remote site. All this can be recorded on-site using a digital video recorder as well as at the remote monitoring centre on computer hard drives. CCTV is a critical security tool, not only for security requirements but for day to day management. The presence of CCTV reduces crime and a proper, well designed system will reduce manpower costs.
Remote CCTV
Chubb Remote Video Response employs unmanned local CCTV cameras linked to standard telephone lines that transmit video signals to monitors and recorders in Chubb monitoring centres. The national 24 hour monitoring centre's infrastructure, already in operation for alarm monitoring and response, is able to provide remote visual monitoring solutions to further protect your assets and premises.
Remote Video Response can significantly reduce crime. It is like having a number of patrol officers permanently on the beat in particular areas.
Intruder detection
An intruder detection system is installed to reduce the risk of loss.
It is important that security systems and detection layout are regularly reviewed. Chubb recommends a total review of commercial and industrial installations every two to three years.
Any alterations in the structure or layout of your premises or any major change in the value of the risk should be followed by a re-assessment of your security system. Security systems and techniques change and improve constantly. The best way to beat criminals is to stay one step ahead of them.
Fire detection
CIS, using the latest technologies, has the required expertise to install either networked or standalone fire detection systems for small, large, single or multiple sites. In addition, fire extinguishing systems can be integrated into fire detection and alarm systems. The organisation's systems are designed to ensure rapid knockdown by flooding the area of a fire with the appropriate agent including clean gaseous agents, inert gases, foams, power, CO2 or water mist.
CIS represents a number of dealerships and sole agencies in South Africa. These include Ansul (USA), Kidde Fire Protection (UK), Ginge Kerr (Denmark) - Argonite (Inert), Lenel International, based in the USA, as well as Verex Technology from Canada.
Chubb has combined 185 years of safety expertise with world-class state-of-the-art technology and a highly skilled workforce to provide customers with absolute confidence in their security systems and services. Chubb's national footprint and ability to integrate various security services, combined with ongoing innovation, is clearly a key differentiation from local and international competitors. In July 2003, Chubb Plc, the holding company for Chubb SA, became a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation (UTC), a $28,2-billion global NYSE listed organisation.
Chubb SA was recently nominated as one of the country's top performers in its economic sector for 2003 and qualifies for inclusion in the 2004 National Edition of South Africa's Top 300 Companies. In addition, two divisions within Chubb SA were recognised for their security offerings at the annual Professional Management Review (PMR) awards ceremony. In the Security Services category CES was presented with the Diamond Award (1st) for Armed Response as well as the Gold Award (2nd) for their Alarms offering. CIS was voted 3rd overall in the Camera Surveillance and Access Control section, earning them a Silver Award.
