At the end of July the first Union Design Centre was launched in Delarey, Roodepoort.
The Design Centre, which is based on an initiative by Assa Abloy Head Office and benchmarked on the first centre which was established in Singapore, is the first of five such centres to be opened in southern Africa by mid-2005.
The strategy of the Design Centres is to build a national and international base team of architectural ironmongers who will focus on Union in the commercial market. Also, a network will be established which will create a unique identity and base membership on an agreed set of criteria and ensure that Union Design Centres are set up in all the Union core markets.
The range which is on display in the Johannesburg-based Union Design Centre is Assa Abloy SA's complete offering of architectural furniture, locks, lock cases, rebate conversion sets, cylinders, door controls, escape hardware, accessories, selected padlocks and OEM products, a range of Mul-T-Lock products, electric strikes, VingCard furniture and the Union blister range.
All design centres will have access to Union's own U-Schedule specification software, a custom-designed specification program which generates all documentation required by architects, quantity surveyors, building contractors and builder's merchants to meet their architectural ironmongery needs. On-going training to the architectural network will be provided by Assa Abloy.
