Petroleum giant, BP Southern Africa, recently beefed up the security at one of its biggest sites in Alrode, Alberton, by installing a combination of security systems from the Intervid-Securicor alliance.
"BP needed a better overview of the activities on the site, as previous security measures could not keep up with the location's rapid growth," says Niekie Kruger, Intervid account manager.
The installation includes CCTV surveillance, perimeter monitoring and electric fencing. In total, the surveillance equipment comprises 23 static cameras and three high-speed dome cameras. "This contract also included revising staff and visitor access control points and procedures, to better track the flow of people and vehicles, as well as redesigning the layout of the parking area," explains Kruger.
"Congestion and management of the access control areas was a priority. In addition, we needed an intelligent solution to parking."
The system is the alliance's first contract for BPSA, although Intervid has previously dealt with some of BP's other operations in Africa. "The contract was awarded last year and has just been completed," adds Kruger. "An alarm intrusion system was also installed by Securicor.
"Security is not static and this project is on-going. We anticipate that the client will save substantially with this fitting through a reduction in crime and risk and will also enjoy improved automated and optimised processes," Kruger concludes.
