Sophisticated perimeter security solution

June 2001 Perimeter Security, Alarms & Intruder Detection

"Here is a company with a track record to be admired. Since its inception the company has excelled in providing solutions through their products, making customers feel safe again." This is according to Rob Stewart, Marketing Executive of Brilliant Security Solutions (BSS), a specialist in sophisticated perimeter solutions.

The company is also involved in the design and development of perimeter sensor equipment which includes Superbeam, a sophisticated perimeter security solution that offers advanced information and early warning in order to prevent being attacked by an intruder.

Superbeam is a spin-off of the CSIR's defence programme, and has been adapted from a technique developed in the 1980s to provide perimeter security for strategic military and civilian facilities both locally and internationally. Rob Stewart, Marketing Executive at BSS, points out that for the past four years there has not been a single breach of perimeter security in areas where Superbeam has been installed.

Movement detection

The system consists of an intricate network of active infrared beams installed unobtrusively in one's house and property. Superbeam operates on the principle of movement detection. Once installed the user will have two detection zones outside and one inside the house to give him early warning of any movement, with the intruder unaware of it. What is more, even if an intruder does know about Superbeam, he will not be able to figure out how it works and when someone penetrates the boundaries, the sensors immediately activate the system and communicate the movement to the user who can then decide if he wants to react to the warning. Furthermore, Superbeam can communicate early warnings through any available communication system.

Included in the Superbeam range are:

* Cobra-IR infrared garden lamp - an IR sensor disguised as a garden lamp with the ability to direct each RX/TX module in the direction of other sensors, allowing four different beams in four different directions. The same sensor may also be deployed as a conventional double-beam unit, directing 2 x RX in one direction and 2 x TX in another.

* Mamba-IR - this sensor is ideal for industrial applications with a clear perimeter. Available in 1,2; 2; 3 and 4 mm units, the Mamba is modular in design with several combinations of beams possible. The Mamba provides quality false alarm suppression and is capable of beam-break pattern recognition.

* SuperBeam Papilon software - Easy to install, program and operate, each communication unit equipped with 16 inputs or 12 outputs. Features include: complete RS422 communication system for any security application; PC operation; logging all events and users; printing of reports, and graphic interface.

* SuperBeam Viper control unit - advanced alarm control unit with power supplies. Interfaced with mimic panel, the Viper has dedicated outputs for LED units, buzzers, sirens and strobes. It is fully programmable via a PC or laptop, has three serial ports and pluggable connectors for easy installation.

* SuperBeam LCD - Palm - Battery-operated communication unit used in conjunction with the Viper control unit. Downloads all recent alarms before entering one's premises. Operates within 400 m from the control. Works in conjunction with a remote button.

In addition, Superbeam can also be programmed to switch lights on and off when nobody is home and should electrical power be interrupted, several standby power systems ensure that Superbeam will continue to operate for a few days, thereby ensuring that this highly sophisticated system offers more value than traditional alarm systems.
