Soccer fever at ADI

July 2010 News & Events

ADI added to the country’s soccer hype at a breakfast seminar that it hosted for clients at the Johannesburg Country Club in May. While the aim was to bring attendees up to scratch with its market offering and channel partners, it also added flavour to the occasion by inviting none other than ex Bafana Bafana coach Clive Barker, to give his version on the latest on world cup soccer.

It was a morning packed with content. Opening the seminar, ADI’s MD, Andrew Stead, gave a global overview on the company, identifying its core business, its multitude of brands and sheer scale of the business worldwide. The stats were impressive: currently sitting with 250 branches worldwide, ADI operates in six zones, 19 countries and 90 locations with a global customer base of 50 000.

Axis, Ideco and Proxim completed the picture with equally impressive stats. Roy Alves, Axis country manager, highlighted astounding global growth figures for the specialist surveillance company over the last two decades. The company’s network video business has significantly impacted the over 400 local partners with whom it has partnered over the years, with sales amounting to a global total of 2,3 billion Swedish Kroner from more than 70 countries. Its video sales have increased exponentially since its inception in 1984 increasing at nearly 40% per year

“About 38% of all cameras shipped are network cameras,” Alves said. “The USA has gone surveillance crazy, catching up impressively with Europe and the Middle East. And in South Africa, Axis has about 550 companies that work with their products.”

Marius Coetzee of IDECO Biometric Security Solutions also wowed attendees with his detailed overview of how biometric technology decodes fingerprints. The company’s SAGEM agency has enabled it to offer the world’s leading fingerprint technology trusted by the FBI, Interpol and most major police and justice departments around the world (including SAPS).

Proxim sales director, Riaan Graham gave the low down on Proxim’s space in the networking market, pointing out why this USA-based company is now recognised as a global wireless networking leader. Speaking about the importance of providing outdoor security video surveillance solutions that require low maintenance and administration costs, Graham expounded the benefits of IP surveillance. “The fact that you can have people 40 km away from the actual cameras is where the beauty of wireless networking lies,” he said.
