Elvey Security Technologies Lists on the JSE

June '99 News & Events

Elvey Security Technologies has recently achieved ISO 9002 certification by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS). This certification endorses compliance of the Elvey International Quality Management System to meet the requirements of the internationally accepted ISO 9002 standard.

Elvey has a group of companies which collectively constitute a service provider and distributor to the electronic security industry in Sub Saharan Africa. Being the first ISO 9002 certified company in this niche market in South Africa emphasises the group's lead in its industry.

There are many different organisations giving ISO certification. According to Jack Edery, financial director of Elvey, the group chose the SABS because of the high standard it sets and because of the international esteem in which the organisation is held. "Our certification," says Edery, "covers quality systems for all aspects of our business."

According to Edery, the average time for implementing the quality management systems is around 2 years. "Quality has long been one of the cornerstones of our focus on customer service. With high standards of quality management already in place, we were able to achieve compliance in well under a year,."

What are the advantages for customers ? "Peace of mind," comments Edery. "The peace of mind that comes from knowing that an internationally recognised body, in our case, the SABS, has certified us and is auditing us on a regular basis to ensure that the high quality standards we have set for ourselves are maintained. Our objective is to continually meet customer's requirements on time, every time."

Edery points out that the advantages for Elvey are that the group is listed in an exclusive directory which identifies Elvey as operating to an internationally recognised standard. This will enhance the group's profile with both customers and suppliers - of major importance in light of the fact that Elvey is looking to expand into global markets.

Edery suggests that obtaining SABS ISO 9002 has been beneficial to the company's recent listing on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange on May 20, 1999. Says Edery, "Every Elvey employee has committed in writing to our quality management systems. Elvey's SABS ISO 9002 certification formally entrenches our culture of quality and takes our quest for business excellence one step further."
