New 16 channel embedded DVR system from Eagle

June 2004 Surveillance

The E-PICA series of DVRs is a family of embedded digital video recording systems based on the embedded XP operating system. XP embedded combines the benefits of the multimedia-rich XP with the stability of an embedded operating system. Extremely easy to use, the unit can be controlled via the front panel keyboard or via an infrared remote control. All functions are accessed via easy-to-use colour graphical screens. This is beneficial for clients who are non-PC literate or in situations where one does not want to have a PC present.

Camera monitoring on all channels is realtime (25 fps) and the user can display images in a range of different screen configurations. One can also set the system to sequence between cameras or pop-up a camera on alarm/motion activation. A normal VGA monitor or a higher-resolution CRT video monitor is used with the DVR. A spot monitor can also be attached to the unit with the output sequenced between a selection of chosen cameras.

Recording is activated by alarm hardware input, via the software motion detection or manually by the user. Total recording speeds are 200 fps for the E-PICA-6016 model and 100 fps for the E-PICA-5016 model. This recording speed is spread among the amount of cameras connected to the system and is dependent on the recording resolution selected. One can set the image resolution up to full frame (720 x 576), which provides high resolution recording of critical cameras such as on number plates or facial image capture at entry/exit points. The system can also be programmed to record at a particular speed on event activation. A system schedule allows the user to set recording modes (motion, continuous, no record) for different times of the day.

Recorded video can be searched for via a time/date screen or via a graphical event log. This log allows the user to view where an event has occurred on that by indicating event occurrences only. Multiple channels can be played back simultaneously and at different playback speeds.

Remote monitoring and control is possible over TCP/IP. A remote client program, which enables the remote function, is included. For systems featuring multiple DVRs, one can select the optional E-CTMS multiclient software which can be used to monitor, backup and configure up to 100 different DVRs simultaneously. This software has support for four external VGA monitors with up to 49 (7 x 7) cameras per monitor. It also has support for 640 x 480 graphical clickable maps, as well as PTZ camera control and event window pop-up.
