Lexis Nexis Compliance presents Mining Health and Safety Seminar at OSH Expo Africa

July 2011 News & Events, Mining (Industry)

Health and safety in the mining industry has become a central issue in South Africa, and one that continuously comes under scrutiny from government.

Failure to improve health and safety standards not only threatens operating costs, but can devastate an organisation’s bottom-line. Furthermore mine owners, employers, chief executive officers, directors, managers and other supervisory staff can all be held directly responsible for preventable health and safety violations that lead to disease, death or injury.

Montgomery Africa, the organiser of OSH Expo Africa has announced that Lexis Nexis Compliance will be focusing on this key issue at the OSH Expo Africa in September 2011 as it presents the Mine and Occupational Health & Safety Seminar on 7 September 2011.

Lexis Nexis Compliance, in conjunction with Brink Cohen Le Roux Inc has become known as the authoritative voice in health and safety matters. The Mine and Occupational Health & Safety Seminar held annually in May is attended by leading health and safety players in all fields. This discussion, presented at OSH Expo Africa, is a continuation of the annual seminar and is applicable to both Mine and Occupational Health and Safety industry leaders.

“The seminar will inform industry professionals of exactly where they stand in terms of the law. It is a must-attend event for all key players in mining and related industries,” says Ross Cullingworth, director, sales and marketing at Montgomery Africa. “Furthermore Lexis Nexis Compliance is a well-known leader in occupational health and safety, offering a range of professional services and products, and we are delighted that they are partnering with us at this event.”

The Mine and Occupational Health & Safety Seminar will feature two prestigious speakers - Willem le Roux and Pieter Colyn, both directors at Brink Cohen Le Roux, who have extensive and critical knowledge of the mining landscape and those vital legal matters related to health and safety. Both have appeared on behalf of mining employers and participated in a number of high profile inquests. Willem and Pieter were also recently listed in the International Who's Who of Mining Lawyers 2011 publication of the International Bar Association as prominent mining lawyers.

Key topics to be addressed at the seminar include: closure orders, inquiry procedures and liability of occupational injuries and disease.

This seminar is a must for any professional involved in occupational health and safety but is particularly pertinent to chief executive officers, directors, managers, supervisors, mine and occupational health and safety managers, mine and occupational health and safety representatives and practitioners, HR practitioners.
