In much the same way that all large-scale inventions change society, from the creation of fire to mobile phones, humans will adapt to a new normal and find space within a smart city to evolve, innovate and create. Now in a world facing unprecedented safety challenges, mass urbanisation and constant new threats, how do we protect life, improve citizen confidence and make our communities safer?
The smart city concept integrates information and communication technology (ICT), and various physical devices connected to the network (the Internet of Things, or IoT) to optimise the efficiency of city operations and services and connect to citizens. For all the advancements in technology and complicated algorithms of today, a smart city retains the goal of the traffic light: using technology to make things work better.
Quality of life has significantly improved in the last century, mainly with regards to the access to services. However, the heavy industrialisation and the increasing population in the urban areas has been a big challenge for architects and urban planners.
A smarter future cannot exist without smart, resilient and robust resources, and with needs changing fundamentally and fast, more of the same is not an effective strategy. Smart utilities, which are cost effective and consciously manage finite resources such as power, water and gas, in a world facing climate change, environmental impact, and resource conservation concerns is a growing need.
The potential of a city with a data-driven infrastructure is exciting but also requires an adjustment of expectations. Smart cities will not be the answer to all our problems nor completely transform the way we live overnight. Rather they will be incremental transformations that will enhance our lives through a combination of small projects and wider infrastructure changes underpinned by data sharing.
Existing cities are finding innovative ways to use data and technology to improve their systems and new cities are being built from the ground up with ‘smart’ infrastructure to improve the lives of those living within them. The ambitions are grand, and the action is necessary.
Surveillance cameras and facial recognition are used to monitor public and private spaces and to identify people today, and are increasingly being used to monitor public and private spaces throughout the world. Smart City and Safe City have been the strategic core business for the future development of ZKTeco. The company uses its own property rights of hybrid biometric verification technology, RFID technology, security alarm solutions, in-depth learning and image identification technologies; this relies on multi-information integration.
ZKTeco can offer a smart security platform that offers one-stop security solutions and offers integrated smart security for personnel access control, car access control and freight inspection. Its Smart City platform can achieve real-time predictions and forecasts, visualised commands, quick decision making and offers anti-terrorism abilities in specific areas in integrated cities.
Smart city concepts are constantly developing and changing everyday living and making it easier to live a better life. Secured functioning of systems, smart transportation solutions and smart healthcare solutions are the future and it is here already.
