Dahua launches ePoE for IP

August 2017 Surveillance, Infrastructure

Dahua Technology has announced the launch of a system of extended Power over Ethernet (ePoE) devices including cameras, network switches and network recorders. The Dahua ePoE IP system supports distances of up to

800 metres between the ePoE camera and the ePoE network switch or ePoE NVR with an embedded switch. It overcomes the limitation of traditional Ethernet and PoE (both restrict cable distances to 100 metres between network ports) and eliminates the need for Ethernet extension devices or additional network switches.

The Dahua system offers the following features:

• Extended PoE transmission: 800 m, 10 Mbps, 13 W or 300 m, 100 Mbps, 25,4 W.

• Automatic set up, plug-and-play.

• Acceptable for analogue to IP migration: IP video, audio, control and power (4-in-1) over coax cable, with LR1002 ePoE to BNC adaptor.

ePoE network cameras

The ePoE series IP cameras cover resolutions from 1080p to 4K and have various selections in terms of camera form factors (box, bullet, dome, eyeball) and lens types (varifocal, fixed lens), which can meet most surveillance requirements. As a sub-category of the Eco-savvy 3.0 series, they inherit all the software features of the series, such as Smart Video Detection (tripwire, intrusion, abandoned/missing detection), face detection and Smart H.265+ encoding.

ePoE network recorders

The ePoE series network recorders will be released in September 2017. They have eight green ePoE ports that support long-distance PoE transmission (300 m@100 Mbps/800 m@10 Mbps / EoC) when connecting to ePoE cameras. There are three models with 2/4/8 SATA ports respectively for different storage capacity. An advanced H.265 chipset is deployed to support 4K and H.265 decoding at a performance up to 16-channels at 1080p or 4-channels at 4K live view or playback. As a sub-category of Pro series NVR, it inherits all the software features of NVR5000-4KS2 series products, such as Smart Video Detection, face detection, Smart H.265+ decoding, ANPR, POS and custom split. It is compatible with standard Ethernet or PoE cameras and switches, perfect for migration of existing system.

ePoE network switch

The ePoE network switch PFL2106-4ET-96 was released in November 2016. It has four ePoE ports that support long-distance PoE transmission (300 m@100 Mbps/800 m@10 Mbps/EoC) when connected with ePoE cameras. It supports plug-and-play and no configuration required to realise long distance transmission. Additionally, ePoE series network switch adopts industrial grade design with a wide operation temperature range (-30°C to 65°C) and lightning protection. It is also compatible with the non-ePoE IP cameras (100 m@100 Mbps).

Application scenarios

For surveillance of large spaces, such as warehouses, parks, garden and outdoor parking, camera locations can be dispersed far from the control centre. The conventional approach is to add repeater devices to extend the transmission distance; however, this would increase cost of equipment and installation. A power supply and junction box will also be required to install the repeater. It also makes it harder to maintain and increases the risk of product failure.

Alternatively, a fibre-optic transceiver for long-distance transmission is also available. However, fibre-optic cable has to be installed and it requires a power supply at the camera to power the fibre-optic transceiver as well as the camera. The Dahua ePoE IP system offers a very simple and effective solution as it supports up to 800 metres via CAT5 Ethernet cable. It simplifies the network construction as only one cable is required to connect the front-end and the back-end devices, which results in higher reliability and lower installation and maintenance costs of the whole system.

For migration of analogue surveillance system to IP, reusing existing coaxial cable can largely reduce the installation cost. A proper solution needs to address three issues: adapt the IP video signal and RJ45 connection to coaxial cable, support the length of coaxial cable as it is, and transmit power over coaxial cable. The ePoE IP system addresses all of these and makes it easy to reuse existing coaxial cable to run IP video. Power over coaxial extender LR1002 connects to the Ethernet port of an IP camera or a network switch on one end and connects to a BNC connector on the other. The ePoE IP system supports transmission up to 1 000 metres over RG59 coaxial cable at 10 Mbit/s, and delivers PoE power to the IP camera.
