Hikvision launches home and SMB range of cameras

Hikvision and local distribution company Corex, recently held an event in Johannesburg to launch the EZVIZ range of home and small business security solutions. Corex will be the sole distributor for this range in South Africa.

Corex was founded in 2003 and supports over 2200 active resellers in the country, focused on four primary technology areas: storage, software, networking and surveillance. The company has three branches in South Africa from where it provides products to its channel customers through an automated logistics system. Handling its own logistics allows Corex to commit to delivery times for better service levels. The company also keeps a strong technical team on board and offers product training to its channel partners and their customers.

Hikvision is well known in the surveillance market where it currently commands about 20% of the global market share (23% of the market share in SA) according to the company’s Johnny Ge, channel sales manager for South Africa. The company is also growing at a rate of 70% internationally – excluding the Chinese market. Hikvision has two manufacturing centres in China where it produces 110 000 cameras each day.

EZVIZ is a Hikvision sub-brand, aimed at the SMB (small to medium business), home and individual markets. The technologies used make use of cloud technology to make the whole process of securing your premises as simple as possible. Users will not need to configure storage systems, although these are available if required.

Ge says there are about one million home users the EZVIZ range is targeting in South Africa, and 1,2 million small businesses which could use this technology effectively. The products are not only aimed at security, but offer the options to manage pets, keep an eye on a small store, or even assist with care of the elderly.

Following on the concept of simplicity, Ge says the EZVIZ products have been designed to allow anyone to install and operate them. Once connected to the user’s Internet connection, the hub will automatically discover other EZVIZ products and configure them – including their IP addresses. Alternatively, users can simply scan the 2D barcode on the device and it will be added to the hub and be automatically configured.

The system is managed via an app which can be downloaded for free, allowing users to view video footage when an alarm is raised, or to simply check up on what the kids are doing after school. They can also set and disable alarms remotely.

Apart from a range of standard cameras, the range includes the small Mini Guard camera, which sports a magnetic base. This allows one to place it on any metal surface and move it around as required. Users also have the option to engage in two-way audio with certain cameras. The cameras also include onboard storage as standard.

The range of products also includes more traditional security solutions, such as door and window sensors, alarms and PIRs, complete with a remote control. A siren is also available to complement the alarm notification you receive on your mobile when an event is triggered. An alarm can be triggered by the sensors or by CCTV motion detection, giving users the opportunity to view the situation and take action if required.

For the sports fans, there is also an action camera. The S1 offers a 16 MP camera and 64 GB of storage, while the S2 is a 12 MP camera with 128 GB of storage.
