Alarm sounders are suitable in situations where building occupants are familiar with its layout and routines. In many buildings where voice alarms are not required, for example at companies or public institutions, acoustic sounders are activated in the event of fire. Voice messaging has become established as the preferred method for managing the general public in emergency conditions. The ability of a spoken message to convey precise information has been shown to greatly enhance both the responsiveness and understanding of people in difficult situations. Unlike common acoustic sounders which receive their power from the panel, and restart with a delay if it is interrupted, the Bosch FNM-420U contains its own energy source. This ensures fast, uninterruptable alarms, even if the line is damaged, or all of the wiring is destroyed in a fire. This sounder comes with 28 pre-programmed signals. Each signal is a sequence of a tone, a voice message, a tone, a voice message. There are four different voice messages in seven languages and 32 different tones available.
